 Effects of lockdown on one's mental health?

The lockdown affected to three main areas. They are physical movement out of the home, social distancing, and restricted availability of public services. There was a sudden and drastic alternation in our daily routine.

People are facing a lot of problems in this lockdown time. Children are experiencing worry, anxiety, and fear and this can be similar to adults, such as fear of dying, a fear of their relatives dying, or fear to receive medical treatment.

The children were loosed their academic year due to this lockdown and they may no longer have that sense of structure and stimulation that is provided by that environment and now they have less opportunity to be with their friends and get that social support that is essential for good mental health.

While protective measures like social distancing and lockdown may help in curing the pandemic and get more effective solutions. In addition to the work from home policy that has been implemented in the majority of the countries and schools have been closed across the world. It is important to note that without urgent actions the situation might be worse for kids across the world. 

For most people COVID-19 causes only mild illness, it can make people very ill. The disease can be fatal. Older people and pre-existing medical conditions appear to be vulnerable.

COVID-19 is the primary transmission route is through person-to-person contact and direct contact when an infected person sneezes or coughs.

There is no evidence that viruses cause respiratory illness to be transferred through food packaging. It is caused to spell trouble for kids that they are already suffering from mental conditions. 

A study was conducted by mental health charity on mental illness then they found that 83% of the people agreed that pandemic had impacted their mental health condition and made it worse, while the 26% reported that they were not able to get the required mental health support due to COVID-19 outbreak.

On the education front, even though schools are trying their best to bridge the gap by providing online education, not all of them have access to the required materials or even the internet connection. It also puts at risk of websites not suitable for them or even falls prey to cyberbullying. This is why understanding how the coronavirus outbreak is impacted by younger minds.

It is a crucial time for children and young people. And they have a daily study schedule chalked out by their parents. A lot of children may already be at the risk of gender-based violence and abuse and the Global communities need to come together to protect the most vulnerable section of society.

School routines are coping mechanisms for young people with mental health issues. Going to school had been a struggle for students, but at least they had school routines. But they have locked themselves inside their rooms for months, refusing to eat or leave their beds. When the schools are beginning then some children with depression will be in difficulties adjusting back to normal life. They can become frustrated when their daily routines are disrupted. Parents have to create a time table for their children to reduce anxiety and improve their creative skills to make up for the loss. Meanwhile, college and university students are stressed about the cancelation of anticipated events such as exchange studies and graduation ceremonies. Some employees are lost their part-time jobs as local businesses closed. Students in their final years anxious about the job market they are going soon.

These populations can include anxious and angry or feel stressed. Its impacts can be difficult for older people who may be experiencing dementia. And some older people may already be socially isolated and experiencing loneliness which can be worse mental health.

The virus can cause mild illness and get pneumonia. Symptoms of Corona Disease are fever, cough, sore throat, and headaches. It needs 2 weeks to recover for that person who gets mild Disease. While people with a critical disease, for them the recovery time is 3 to 6 weeks. The virus can spread through the hands and we touch too many surfaces and the virus will quickly transfer from one person to another person easily. Hands can transfer the virus to our face easily from where the virus can move inside our body and may feel ill. Every citizen wants to contribute to this war against the virus by performing all the necessary measures, especially social distancing in this lockdown.

The extended lockdown and social distancing have had a devastating effect on the mental health and feel stressed of Indians. It is like being in prison. May be worst for those who are quarantined. The lockdown had a heavy impact on families. 


Loneliness is the worst enemy of people. With pre-existing mental health problems. Those with anxiety disorders have been hit hard by this lockdown.
