HealthCare should be between the doctor and the patient. And if the doctor says something needs to be done, the government should guarantee it gets paid for.” Ever since we were children, we were often heard from our elders that health is wealth. Though we never really paid great attention to this saying, it is after years when we are all fighting against the novel corona virus, we do realize the significance of the proverb. A microorganism has disrupted the lifestyle of each and every human being on this earth. It have been months, we are battling against this virus, but in vain. No medical research seems to find a cure for this disease. The doctors are toiling day and night to provide essential care to all their patients. The situation in India is more grim than most of the other Nations. We have a huge population of about 138 crores. The Government health care facility is very poor all over the Nation. And yet only the government hospitals are admitting and treating the patients suffering from this disease. As a result, we have a huge line of patients to be tested and treated. Due to lack of infrastructure, many patients are getting defeated in this battle between life and death. Health Care facility in India is unable to tackle so many patients at a time. Hence, considering the present condition of the nation, a Public Litigation has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding nationalization of health care in India.

Health Care Facility in Rural Areas:

The health care system is in its worst form in the rural areas. There are no private clinics or hospitals. People are bound to rely on the Government hospitals only. Though the cost of getting treated in government hospitals is barely any, the lack of infrastructure makes it difficult for these people. Qualified doctors are reluctant to spend their life in villages. Hence, generally interns are sent to these rural areas. They are inexperienced and yet, they are the only rays of hope for these rural people. Professional doctors visit rural areas once a week or sometimes once a month. Catering to all the patients in just a day or two is practically impossible. Hence, only a few patients are seen and observed by the qualified doctor. Nurses and other health workers serve as the support system in rural areas. They have learnt some medical skills from their experience, and hence in case of minor ailments they can cure the patients. But in case of any serious ailment, the patient has to be taken in the city. In grave situations, the patient dies before getting any timely help. The Government should immediately look after improving the rural health care facilities. Modern equipment must be present in at least one hospital of the village. There should always be presence of qualified professional doctors in the hospital. The rural people should get treated in the village itself, no one should need to come to the city to receive medical help.

Health Care Facility in Cities:

We, the city people are lucky never to have a deficiency in the health care facility of the city. We have a number of private hospitals and clinics with qualified doctors available there 24*7. But the health care facility has a different story in the cities. It is no longer a public serving facility, rather it has turned into a business. The owners of these private hospitals look at the patients as money minting machines. Getting medical bills worth lakhs have been just a matter of 3-4 days. Due to the huge expenditure, the middle class people find it is difficult to afford private clinics. Hence, again, the government hospitals are overcrowded. The situation of Government Hospitals is no good here. There are no availability of beds and lack of infrastructure. We have to rely on private clinics to get various medical tests done. The Government should immediately look after this situation and prevent the private clinics from charging such exorbitant bills from the patient party. Though the medical facility is very good in these clinics, but the business side associated to them does not allow common people to avail their facilities.

The Present Scenario in India:

In the current scenario, only Government hospitals and clinics are open to covid patients. The private clinics haven’t still been approved to treat these patients. As a result, the patients are not receiving timely medical help. We do not have enough Government hospitals in the Nation as compared to the huge population of our country. Limited beds and lack of equipments are making it extremely difficult for the doctors to attend to all the patients. Nationalization of all private hospitals, will serve the purpose, especially during this time. If the private hospitals operate along with the government ones, we will have an increment in the number of available beds and also have access to modern medical equipments. Patients will receive timely help. Moreover, getting all private hospitals nationalized, the bills made by these places will be in accordance to the government hospitals. Thus, the patient party will not have to burn their pockets. The overall medical care scenario will improve.

Getting the entire medical care system in our Nation nationalized is, in other words, implementing our Fundamental Right to Live. Every citizen has the right to receive proper medical help on time without  thinking about the expense. This is a duty of the Government to look after the health of the citizens. Hence, Nationalization of medical facilities must be done without any delay. We are all looking forward to that day!!
