Discrimination in public education is an evil that needs to be ended. Winning an equal right to a lousy  education is a  hollow victory. Meaning of discrimination is different and unfair treatment . One  individual could be discriminated from the colour of the hair to the clothes that one wear .

The discrimination in education sector could be direct or indirect an example of direct discrimination is not letting a student take part in activities due their skin  colour. Example for indirect discrimination is not letting a student take part due to short height ,but the person with similar height is chosen.

In our country privilege students get the opportunity to study in a private school with better facilities but the section of students /children who cannot affort the interest of going to a private school and often end up going in a government school, where the facilities are less and opportunity to achieve their potential are less.

The one of the biggest discrimination in education of India is that there are two types of schools one made for underprivilege students and one for privilege students which hampers the opportunity of the underprivilege.

Hence , even by reserving some portion of the seats for underprivilege in private school and colleges [any educational institution ] most of the student end up getting harassed or discriminated for a particular reason .

AGE DISCRIMINATION IN EDUCATION

This is when one is treated differently because of one age in one of the situation that are covered by the equality act.

But, the age discrimination has some exceptional provision in which one of them is that students are not protected from age discrimination.

Most of the time students have to put halt on their studies due to family responsibilities or some other circumstances .Due to which they re-join the educational institution that they left for a particular reason Students and some teachers make a join session and try to humiliate the particular student, due to his or her age .A personal experience  where a 24 year student wanted to pursue the degree of l.l.b was humiliated in class due to his age and circumstances which affected his studies and was forced to not fulfill his dream of pursuing the degree.

The above graph, represents the discrimination in our society due to age because of which many children are uneducated and unemployed in our country .

IMPACT DUE TO DISCRIMINATION IN EDUCATION

  1. Low attendance in school and colleges

  2. Mental breakdown of the child

  3. Not successful in attaining their potential

  4. A feeling of isolation

RACIAL DISCRIMINATION IN EDUCATION

Harassment by teachers , administration and student .

Most common discrimination action is taken by the teacher. Due to which many students prefer avoiding studies and leads the student to be uneducated . Rather than the teacher imparting value and respect towards the society to children they leave a print of their immoral behaviour towards the students.

Many of the cases related to discrimination is of punishing a student more harshly because of the student minority status. Other discrimination by teachers could be ranging from unfair grading of a particular student.

Administrative related discrimination is more common than the teacher discrimination. They try and over penalize the minority students ,the minority students are more likely to get expelled from the school or college than the majority peers .

In many, cases mistakes done by the majority student is ignored and minority student are suspended from the school. Taking advantage of the minority student status they ill-treat them and on some irrational ground try to remove them from education institution.

GENDER DISCRIMINATION  IN EDUCATION

Since centuries, our society have discriminated between men and women .Girls in education sector have been discriminated in many ways than the boys counterpart. Many girls are not send to education institution as they are forced to do household work .

Rather than giving them a gift of education they are given floorcloth in their hand.

The reports have shown that –

  • Nearly out of every 10 girls being made fun of because they are a girl, compared to other boys in school.

  • Girls were generally seen better in light subjects such as music , art etc and boys were seen better in mathematics.

Conclusion

Eventhough , equality is provided but it is not fully provided with proper guidelines and protection against the humiliation that they have to undergo.

Educational institution should be just made for embracing one’s knowledge and memorable journey for students , not a journey that haunts them forever in their life .
