Sustainable development could be a well-known word mainly within the more developed parts of the planet. It’s a term that we often come across in arenas starting from small recycling initiatives to big media explanations on worldwide security issues.
Sustainable development is a development that completes the necessities of this situation without compromising the requirements of future generations.
Peace is the main component of sustainable development. Sustainable development and world peace are two sides of the same coin. When development is so simple and unique that it'll not create any long term harm to living and non-living beings, people are satisfied and no war will occur.
How Does Peace Ensure Sustainable Development?
The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) identified eight specific factors that result in peace which have favorable economic, political, and social characteristics. They’re ready to generate peace and also the desirable outcomes that are connected to peace, like diversity, economic equality, and a healthier environment.
The eight factors behind peace, also called the Eight Pillars of Peace are:-
• Well-functioning government
• Sound business environment
• Equitable distribution of resources
• Acceptance of the rights of others
• Good relations with neighbors
• Free flow of knowledge
• High levels of human capital
• Low levels of corruption
Education as a catalyst for change and sustainable development
“Education could be key to the worldwide integrated framework of sustainable development goals. Education is at the guts of our efforts both to adapt to alter and to remodel the planet within which we live.”
Education is additionally a very important means of implementation for sustainable development, and it provides a crucial construct where the tensions between economic, social, and environmental development will be coordinated and integrated into one concept and pursuit of sustainable well-being for all.
Sustainable development goals require a better understanding of education’s role as a cross-cutting means of implementation to strengthen achievements across many other goals. Education is the backbone of sustainable development target whose success relies on an individual person, throughout their lifetime, gaining relevant knowledge and developing positive behavior to handle overall challenges.
Education creates a powerful mechanism for supporting social learning/change, which enables synergies between education and other critical elements of an enabling environment including lifelong learning, professional career development, community learning, and public participation.
As a human process, Education for sustainable development (ESD) can aid in producing a culture respectful to the principles of sustainable development. ESD includes an oversized number of concepts, theories, policy prescripts, and practical methods geared toward reshaping education systems to deal with the socio-economic and ecological dimensions of sustainable development. Education for sustainable development promotes educational reform towards quality education to boost student’s lifelong learning, cooperative learning, and interpretations of information.
Quality education is about how people learn in today’s world and accept global challenges and its influence on people’s choices. Many now agree, quality education for sustainable development reinforces people’s sense of responsibility as global citizens and better prepares them for the planet they're going to inherit. ESD addresses important thematic topics like global climate change and sustainable consumption, but it also advances value and skill-based learning. Applying action-oriented and problem-based learning, ESD supports critical examination of worldviews to enable. There’s a requirement to rethink and broaden the notion of lifelong education. Not only must it adapt to changes within the nature of labor, but it must also constitute a continual process of forming whole men their knowledge and aptitudes, likewise because of the critical faculty and therefore the ability to act.
Education should be seen as a necessary mode for achieving development and human capital. Investment in education may be more practical for increasing a country’s adaptive capacity to temperature change than investments in physical infrastructures, especially in situations where the impacts of global climate change remain highly uncertain. For sustainable consumption, education helps individuals to understand the environmental and social impacts of their daily lifestyle choices. Education also supports cooperative learning and significant examination which results in collective reimaging of lifestyle practices and identification of sustainable solutions.
In a society where positive peace prevails, all sectors help induce the positive economic, political, and social factors that cause sustainable development. For example- Businesses pay their worker's competitive wages to use materials with care and not participate in bribery activities. With decent wages, workers can afford basic needs, allowing them to become more productive. When manufacturers use resources responsibly, they contribute to positive change. And when companies don't engage in bribery, they discourage employees, other businesses, and governments from enabling corruption.
These outcomes help ensure greater profitability for enterprises within the future. Promoting peace and sustainable development reduces poverty and prevents conflict, translating to a healthier business environment that enables for the more practical delivery of products and services.
There is no sustainable development without the support of society. If it happens, peace will take part.
