"One can choose to go back towards safety or forward towards growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again." - Abraham Maslow. When we look around, we find that everything around us is growing leaps and bound. Growth is a continuous process which begins from the time we are born and it ends when we breathe our last. We grow in different aspects throughout our lives. We can never have a destination in growth. As we reach our destination a new one is already formed. We can never achieve what is the best. Because, best keeps on changing and we keep on growing towards excellence. Though our physical growth stops after a certain age, but mentally we grow and get enriched as years pass by. Growth is a process, a journey and more about the destination, it is the journey which is to be enjoyed.
Growing our ambitions:
Do our dreams have any end? The answer is No. Our dreams keep on growing with time. Once a dream or ambition is fulfilled, we readily shift to a new one. Our ambitions keep on growing and we strive harder towards it. Our journey with ambitions never seems to stop. Once we are in a good school, we aim for a better college, once in college, we aim for a better job, once we are in that job, we still look for a better one. The word better seems to be attached to us for a lifetime. Hence, we find our ambitions keep on growing and this process continues throughout our life.
Growing the economy:
Every political leader as they acquire position and power promises to have an economic growth. No one is satisfied with what the previous leader has done. Everyone aims for a growth in the economy. Economic growth does not seem to stop anytime. Everyone sets a higher standard for it. Hence, even economic growth is a process, it is continuous in Nature. Every economic aspect like the GDP also seems to follow the same growth pattern, that is, it should increase and be continuous.
Spiritual Growth:
When we are children, we hear different moral fables which teach us different values like honesty, hard work, being truthful, etc. But we never ponder much about them. We come to know that we must follow them as they are right. We hardly reflect upon them as children. But as we grow up, and age, we ponder deeply upon these values. We grow spiritually. We shift our focus to God, the inner meaning of life and our existence. We read spiritual texts and try to get a better meaning of our life. Once, we focus on spiritual growth, it is a never-ending process. When we grow spiritually, we are at inner peace. The commotion and confusion of the outside world do not affect us any longer. We find a reason to live longer, serve mankind and give a true purpose to our existence. This growth is also a process which we undergo.
Growing as a Person:
Often we hear a remark, “Grow up!!”Do we realize that we actually grow up throughout our lives? Growing as a person means reflecting upon our strengths and getting over our weaknesses. Everyone wants to be a better version of themselves. Being a better version is what is called growing as a person. And this continues. We always strive to remove negativities and faults. We cannot label someone as being perfect. Everyone strives towards being perfect. Hence, this growth too is a continuous one as we always move towards perfection.
Growing in the Wrong Direction:
Growth may not be always in the positive direction. We may have negative attributes like selfishness, corruption, dishonesty, etc. Just like the positive qualities they too keep on growing. Once we lie, we continue a chain of lies. Here too, growth is a process. It does not seem to stop or come to an end. However, growing in the negative direction is never recommended. This growth needs to be stopped immediately. Though it requires a huge mental strength and conviction of let go of these negative qualities and stop their growth. Yet, we must all strive towards doing so.
Change is the only constant in our lives. Change is an ever growing process. We change constantly depending on our circumstances, the people surrounding us and with time. It is always advisable that we grow in a positive direction and shed our negative attributes. Growing up or being a better version of oneself is what we should aim at. Growing in a positive direction makes us calm and gives us inner peace which we are constantly looking for. So, keep growing and be the best version of yourself!!
