One of the biggest truths of the animal kingdom is the proverb that says “Survival of the fittest”. This truly means a competition for life in the animal kingdom where the strongest animal, the fastest animal survives.

However, among
Homo sapiens, we often scowl on the concept of competition in students. Especially in an academic competition, we think that this often adds to pressure and leads to stress in children. However today, many scholars are of the other that competition is necessary and valuable for students and that competition is “Healthy Competition”.

The healthy competition requires teamwork and certain participation.  Participants are encouraged to improve themselves and learn a new technique.  Winning is just an option. Healthy competition excites the students and sparks their passion, lit the blaze inside them, and creates a healthy self-image within them. The competition is not only limited to academics but writing skills, artistic skills and martial arts are also included in the healthy competition.

Benefits of healthy competition

  • Brings out the skills and talents of students.

  • Because of this students learn subsidiary techniques and many more things like teamwork and certain attitudes.

  • Students learn up-solving skills.

  •  Students have fun and they enjoy it.

  • It builds confidence in students.

  •  We became enlightened and creative because it always pushes us to do the right things.

Role of parents

Many parents compare their children to others. Still, it is not the right artifice to motivate them; your child may be different from others but he or she might have every second quality or talent, so always appreciate your child, don’t force them to win because winning is not the ultimate goal. They need to learn new skills and techniques. In any case, if the child is demotivated or upset, it’s their parent’s responsibility to come forward and counsel them for facing the challenges in life, encouraging and cheering them to do better work. As parents should always insist on their child, whether he or she wins the competition or not, to concentrate on the order of improvements.

Win or lose in competition

Win and lose are just words, it doesn’t matter that you win or lose; it all depends on how you are doing in the competition and how much effort you put into that. Everyone wants to win the competition but being a competitor; it’s not necessary that you have to win. There are many more taking into account developing your skills and learning added techniques. Instead of comparing yourself with others, use what you have different. Losing is a lesson to the students that how much effort they have to give. After that, they can go on harder, not far afield off, from this and prepare themselves for the upcoming competition with even much stronger conviction than the last time.

Promoting a Culture of Healthy Competition

Some rules and expectations need to be established to promote the heritage and culture of healthy competition. We have to make sure that we stay focused on the process of competition and not on the outcome. Focusing on the process is necessary because it helps us to grow. We become a better person day by day. Competition helps us in submission once setbacks and failures hits us. When we don’t win the race or slip rapid of the mark, we persevere until we reach our goals. We see the finish line and keep going.  Often, we are inspired by those who never disown and overcome obstacles to achieve their goals.

The very old saying is authentic – It’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game. When you lose, be gracious. When you win, be humble. Honour God in every stage you attain. Use what God has concrete you in your unique habit, refusing to compare yourself to others. Instead, apportion leave to enter others to forward taking place happening to sharpen your skills, activate you and shove you take in hand in this race of life.
