Often, we assume that only studies can make the future bright of the student but it is not necessary nowadays co-curricular activities have a great impact on students and their career. Many students take up the option of learning music or dance a subject in senior secondary school. There are many additional subjects that are added to the same. For students it is just a way to earn marks but for some it becomes a passion there are so many students after completing their schooling rather than becoming a teacher, doctor or a lawyer they love to opt for music education, home science, art education or dance education etc. some even wants to pursue a PHD in the co-curricular activities. The impact on the students is vast and has offered them with various opportunity. The modern education is supported by the parents but some still are orthodox. There is a special excuse given to the student who did not attend math or any other subject class because they were gaining more knowledge in their interested field [co-curricular activity].


What is the meaning of co-curricular activity?

Typically, co-curricular activities are those activities that are undertaken outside the normal classrooms which helps the student to enhance their creativity and helps them to grow in the field that they truly want to achieve. These activities help students to develop better communication skills, confidence, critical thinking, problem solving and creative skills. It helps the student to think and enhance a career out of the box and they are not just burdened to be a doctor or an engineer. Some of the co-curricular activity are made compulsory in some schools such as singing, dancing or drama and some are voluntary such as sports, school debating or quiz etc. other than this it helps the student to develop emotionally, physically and mentally and most importantly it opens door for achieving more in life. Some of the colleges have reserved some part of admission on the basis of the co-curricular activity in school this has encouraged many students to achieve what they want to other than following normal academic study. These activities mainly take place either after the school or before the school starts this is the reason, they are known to be co-curricular activity.

Impact and benefits of co-curricular activity

  • It helps the students to express themselves freely and helps them to polish their skills.  

  • Games and sports help them to be fit and active throughout the day. 

  • It also makes a room for healthy competition in which the students support each other and try to advance new skills from the teacher and from other students.

  • These activities help students to organise work and manage work and tries to reform a leadership quality.

  • It also mobilises socialization and improves the communication skills of student when they come in interaction with teachers, fellow participants and others 

  • It also makes students realise that everyone has a point of view and it should not be judged rather it should support if right and if wrong it should be corrected.

  • It helps in making better life decisions 

  • It also creates a feeling of belongingness 

  • Co-curricular activity gives children a mental break from the academic pressure and it stimulates blood circulation in the body.

  • Imagination of the student is improved and he or she can put his or her imagination into the real world.


CONCLUSION

Co-curricular activity has given opportunity to students that they can achieve more in life their livelihood could depend on it.  Studies suggest that many children used to suicide and they were not good in studies but were good in other activities and due to family pressure and lust of becoming successful in life they often closed their doors for what they love and choose something that has more options in earning money. The introduction of co-curricular activities has improved the academic results of students and it also helps in building a stringer relation with the school.
