INTRODUCTION

“The pen is mightier than the sword” phrase means that the sword has sharp ends and it is powerful enough to enslave people and create a situation of terror in the society. On the other hand, pen power is stronger than the sharp edges of the sword. A sword cannot achieve what a pen can as the pen can understand the mind, soul and heart of the human but a sword cannot. It can only create a situation of terror in the mind of humans.  The sword can just kill humans and destroy families but a pen can write history and can satisfy the human mind. During the time of Independence some used the sword and some of them used the pen to fight against the British rule in India. There is no way a comparison can be drawn between them writing against the British takes the same level of courage to fight against them as well hence everyone has their own way in contributing to the removal of British rule.

But it is said that the pen has brought more changes in the society than they could possibly bring through using the sword for example Karl Marx, Karl writes in his philosophy he writes about the oppression of the working class and encourages people to fight against the same and raise voice against the same.

Therefore pen is not always mightier than the sword like during the time Nazi rule people who used the pen against them found themselves in the gas chambers, it took three nation coordinated efforts to end the rule of the Nazi US, Russia and UK wages a war against the Germany which ended the rule and peace could reside all over the world. It is therefore important to consider every proverb with salt. This is because everything in the world is so specific and detailed and in my opinion pen and sword should be used according to the situation at that specific time.

In spite of looking dumb and harmless pen has so much power to influence someone views and opinion it was the power of the pen that influenced so many young boys and girls to end their life with a smile on the face in war against the Britishers.

By using the pen, the person can invest time in writing out their heart as the paper and pen both have more patience than humans.

We can express the important events taking place in our surroundings, many communal differences could be raised by using the sword but on the other hand social harmony could also be maintained by writing on it after the violence, bloodshed and death it is the pen only that signs the peace treaties give wisdom to people and abide them. It is very sad to know that the sword is used for the useless killing of humankind and has no positive impact on society. Instead it creates fear and leaves a bad impression in children’s minds. It totally justified the usage of the sword in the self defence but using it unnecessarily and matters that could be solved by peace.

CONCLUSION

The person behind the sword and the pen is the one who creates difference in our society. Some of them give up their swords for the pen and some do the exact opposite even the Ashoka gave up the fighting because of the bloodshed and dead bodies. Therefore it all depends on the person how they react to a particular situation.
