Child Trafficking

Going through the different brochures, a mother searched for the best school in the city for the child. On the other hand, a father spent extra nights in the office working out his nerve to give the best to his family of three. The days began with his sparkling laugh and ended with his shrill cry.  These days of winter were spent shielding him with all warmth and the summers were absorbed by him under the air conditioner. When they circled around him providing him with everything possible happiness, then how his joy was dashed to the ground. How his sparkling laughter submerged under the grains of sorrow.

Child trafficking is one such activity that lies deep in the soil of our country. It is so engraved to the roots by being invisible to the cores. I moved to a metropolitan city a few months ago. I was allotted a flat in the beginning days of my job. A small boy named "chotu" used to distribute milk packets every morning. He used to come to my flat as well. My bag always had some chocolates which I precisely kept to offer him. It was a rainy day, I waited for him to come, he was half an hour late. The doorbell rang and I rushed to answer it.  To my surprise, it was someone else.  I was not happy to see the other person. "where is chotu", I inquired. "He didn't come today". Many days passed by and still no trace of him. One morning I walked to the shop to get information from the owner regarding "chotu"." Madam, he hasn't been coming for a long time.  I think he ran away. Another day his mother came looking as well.  She was crying. But no trace of him". I was perplexed. "Did they inform the police?", I questioned. The police don't care about these petty issues, madam. I was struck by his words.  He was right. The police in our country will go looking everywhere if a celebrity or a politician's son goes missing.  Chotu was not the son of a celebrity.

Every second in our country a Chotu goes missing. And people don't give a damn about anything. They remain unaffected by such events with the wage interpretation that he ran away or he will return soon.  The traffickers manipulate these children for providing a job with many more alliances when in reality they sell them in the market as beef.  Child trafficking takes place with the borders of the country hence they are difficult to trace. Location of such people changes every day. According to reports, Nepal and Bangladesh witness the realms of this crime.

Financial instability, poverty and lack of proper education are some of the essential reasons for child trafficking. The United Nations development program estimated the unemployment rate in India to be 3.5%. Poverty leads to the exploitation of these children who become the earning hands of these families.

DANNY BOYLE the famous director of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE showcased these evils of Indian society on the big screen bringing home the numerous awards and appreciation. In spite of the discovery of this treacherous crime against children, our country remained unaware of such dark shades of society. Providing our country with all kinds of witnesses to such crimes still, hundreds of children go missing. Even as we talk about some child somewhere in the corner of the country comes under the striking manipulation of such people. They lie hidden under the skin, speak the same language, have the same blood runner through their veins but their heart is filled with inhumanity and eyes are covered with greed for money.
