How education can reform society?

There is a consistent rise in criminal cases in our society every passing year. Many countries are experiencing a rise in the crime rate and their severity. On the other hand, studies show that inmates who were released free from the prison ended up returning to prison with similar charges. There are many reasons that the crime rate in society has risen but they all share a common denominator that society is unable to provide them with education. On the other hand, there is a lot of aggression, competition, and violence among children at a very young age. Our society focuses on children scoring 98% or 99% in their studies but they have never focused on teaching them core values. Numbers or grades will not uplift society, teaching them the core values and turning them into a good human will help in the development of society.

Moreover, even the parents are also contributing. When a child returns from school, the primary concern of parents is that how was school? How much did a child score in the exam? But parents never ask their children about what they learn in their school today.

Our children have a constant social pressure of getting good results or involve in drug addiction, violence, etc that we treat as ‘necessary’ evils but we never tried to figure out the reason behind it. We should focus on educating our youth the moral values and how to actually act like a human. It is not a home atmosphere that matters or a parent’s upbringing. Children spend 5 hrs in school and it is considered to be a second home for a child transforming them into a better person not just academically but personally as well which matters a lot.

METHODS ADOPTED FOR BETTER EDUCATION

Through the process of integral education, rather than teachers telling students to sit on rows of benches/desks, the teacher itself should sit between the students, interact with them, laugh with them and scold them as well. This will help the children to built unity & trust among themselves and better coordination with the teacher as well. They will get to know the importance of unity and helping others while they are drowning.

The teacher should also assign them various role-play. For example, One becomes a police officer and one is the person who did something wrong & they should present their arguments in front of the teacher so that it is easy to analyze what they actually think and the corrections could be made for the same. It will help to develop a better thought process.

This entire role play should be filmed and recorded and some rewards must be given to children, also filming will help them analyze their mistake. If we begin with the process of integral education, we will become closer to maintain balance in society.

WHY DOES NOT THE PRISON WORK TO REFORM THE SOCIETY?

The reason for imprisonment is to transform the person and make him/her a better person. But the person ends up repeating the same crime, nobody focuses on the reformation of the person & turning the law-breaker into a better human being.

In the past, there were some countries that did not accept the process of imprisonment because they knew that this will not affect the person. For example, if a person was caught stealing from someone, He/She has to work for that person so that he/she could pay him/her back for the offense that was committed.

However, even this approach can never change the situation of our society and we should understand that there is no correction required in punishments or material things but improvement in education and imparting moral values can change the situation of the society.

CONCLUSION

It is said that for committing a crime a good level of mind is applied. This mind could be applied in the right direction. The right way is imparting education to the children and by education, I mean giving them moral values and correcting their behavior when a child is small. Watering the seed in a good, healthy, and colorful environment will lead to the growth of a beautiful plant. The prison should be converted into a school, during the free time of the inmate they should be educated. They must learn what it means to be a human being. They will learn the nature of the connection that exists among everyone.
