Conservative Thinking of Indians are Responsible for Rising Intolerance in Country?

People always change with time. As time passes and new generations are born, society changes. People evolve. The beliefs and practices which at one point seemed right might not seem necessary, relevant, or even fair today. The newer generations stopped believing blindly in what our ancestors followed and are replacing it with logic. People are trying to be fair, inclusive, and welcoming, irrespective of a person's background.  

Having said that, there are also some people who are still conservative. A person is said to be conservative if they still follow old principles, actions, and habits. They resist change. They are reluctant to accept new changes and ideas and like to follow their traditional habits and thought processes.  

India is a country filled with people of all cultures and backgrounds. It is filled with people of all income levels. It is also filled with both radical and conservative thinkers. 

Conservatism arrives for many reasons. Lack of education is one of the main reasons. It brings about little to no awareness. This in return leads to them not knowing how to think radically. People also have a conservative mindset because of religious factors. Religion plays a huge aspect of how people act. Since people believe in the concept of God and religion, they feel the need to follow everything their holy books say and preach.   

A lot of people do not have exposure to various things. They believe in things the way they are instead of questioning them. They are not open to change. Such people like things to remain the way they are. It gives them comfort. So lack of exposure and not accepting change are a few more reasons. Another major cause is a peer or societal pressure. Peer pressure can be advantageous or disadvantageous, depending on regardless of whether it's a good influence or not. When everyone around you has certain thoughts and beliefs, it is difficult to be different and even when someone tries to be, the peer pressure can sometimes get to him/her. This can lead to them remaining the way they are instead of trying to think rationally.  

 

Due to this conservative thinking, people don't accept differences. Conservative thinking of Indians is responsible for rising intolerance in the country. Practices like child marriage, killing a girl child before or as soon as they are born, sexism, racism, caste differences, religious discrimination, not being accepting the people belonging to the LGBTQIA community, etc. are some problems that are still being faced as a result of conservatism. It can range from issues that big to something as small as a girl being judged for the clothes she wears.  

Conservative people cannot tolerate anyone who is not following what beliefs they follow, and that is bringing about unwanted hatred. Conservatism is prevalent everywhere. Education, upbringing, though important factors, can only do so much. As long as a person is not willing to accept the change or to think rationally and understand that everyone has their own beliefs and just because someone else's is different from theirs doesn't make theirs wrong, conservatism will prevail. This mentality of having blind faith without thinking with logic is unfortunately used by some politicians and other powerful people to spread hatred amongst people.  

People should understand that there is so much more beyond these differences and that those differences are what makes every single person unique in their own way. People should be more accepting and loving instead of wanting to find reasons to tear others down. As Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "A conservative is a man with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned to walk forward."
