How to fight Unemployment?

Basic necessities such as food, shelter etcetera are important things for survival. There are many more facilities that could make daily lives easier. But, there are millions of people who cannot even afford to fill their own stomachs properly. They've to beg for even a rupee.

India's unemployment has peaked in the last few decades and it's become so hard for the people to keep up with their lives. There are no proper job opportunities and their overpopulation and people are struggling. Even some of the people who have a degree are finding it difficult to get employed.

Causes for unemployment:

Unemployment is one major problem for the poor economic and social conditions, but there is one more issue, and that is underemployment. Unemployment is where one has no job to do, whereas underemployment is the underuse of a worker where their skills aren't given justice.

The problems for the rise in unemployment are vast. To begin with, overpopulation is one of the major reasons. The population has grown about a billion in numbers since independence, and the division of resources has become harder. Also, as the population grew, so did the technology, which made lives easier; but it also reduced job opportunities. Since a lot of work was done by machines, humans had very little to do and there was no need to hire more people.

India depends upon importation heavily for so many goods, which again reduces the scope of working in the country. People have nothing much to choose from. The current resources are being unevenly distributed and the poor masses barely get a thing.

Privatization grew and education became expensive leading many people to just opt out of it or drop out later.

Remedies to reduce unemployment:

The situation can be bettered by implementing new laws and ideologies. It's never too early to start. The immediate thing that could be done now is the fair distribution of wages. The minimum wage set for particular labor is to be provided without any jinx, so that at least the people who have a job, even if it is a marginal work, would at least be able to feed themselves.

We should focus on skill development and education as well. According to the Right To Education Act, one is supposed to get compulsory education at least until Class 8 (Upto age of 14 years), but there are an innumerable number of people who cannot even afford to get that. Education must be more skill and knowledge inclined and should be free, and the government educational institutions need to have proper personnel so as to teach the kids properly.

As mentioned earlier, importation has reduced the scope for employment because there is nothing to do. If we start developing our own goods and start making use of the human resources we have by using our own laborers to work at manufacturing sites fairly, we will have a better economy and better social condition.

The more the importation, the more money spent on taxes, hence if we use our own intellect and muscular strength, we would be able to take our country above and the people who are struggling homeless can have a better life.

There should be many changes made in the education system. It should be passion oriented and people should get to pursue the course they are passionate about. Right now, it is more merit based and the students who are privileged and who aren't expected to do anything more than studying have more time to focus on their education and the underground kids have to manage between studying and economically assisting their family. It becomes unfair to judge their caliber and intelligence through the same end.

Reservations and fee concessions are of course helpful and have given opportunities for more people to study and follow their passion, but it could be stronger and education should not be treated like it is a business.

There are hoards of people who are self-employed and they need assistance, both financially and in terms of skill. They should be supported and motivated and be brought to a certain level where they can run their own business efficiently. There is a need for the government to intervene and create policies to give employment to everyone.

There should be employment opportunities in an under-developed area too, so that people wouldn't have to move from their villages to a relatively expensive area. Also, if schools and colleges are built in villages, there is a more chance of people studying because then they don't have to either live away in a rented place or spend a lot on transportation. Therefore, the development of rural areas is a necessary step to be taken.

One important thing to be kept in mind that it is difficult to manage a greater population and since the population is too much, more people are obligated to live in slums and turn themselves away from a stable life. Population control is a very important aspect to create a balanced world where there is employment and there are more opportunities.

To sum it up, unemployment and underemployment are strong social evils. It is a serious problem that in the world where one couldn't get anything without money doesn't have a source of income at all. There are multiple ways that can be used to provide people jobs, some of which have been discussed in this article. It will take time to bring changes and it isn't impossible. We just have to collectively work to achieve the goal and there are implementations to be made, but until then, we can always support and help people in any way possible, be it volunteering at NGOs or financially supporting them as much as one can, and so on.

This is our world we live in and everyone has equal rights over it. Thus, everyone deserves equal opportunities and choices.
