Social Satisfaction
What is social satisfaction? It’s a person’s satisfaction with his/her life in terms of income, house, friends, car, quality of life, etc. This term is extremely related to our society because it plays a significant role in our lives.
When we live in a society, we always compare us to others. Regardless of what proportion we deny this, but it has an enormous impact on our decisions. We always give some thought to our status.
Feeling socially integrated and being satisfied with one’s social life are important indicators for happiness and well-being of people and therefore the strength of local communities. The satisfaction with the social network and social interactions is a crucial indicator for the standard of life, health, well-being, and happiness of individuals. Being satisfied along with your social contacts and social network may be described as ‘social satisfaction’.
Social relations and networks not only provide benefits at the individual level, but also at the community level and even at the regional, national, or international level. Those that are excluded from social relationships and social opportunities are less likely to be satisfied with their social life. Social interactions are important for feeling socially integrated and will decrease feelings of loneliness.
Factors that affect social satisfaction:-
1. Social network:-
The social network of a person will be defined as a network of social relationships with family, friends, and neighbours and therefore the characteristics of those relationships. It’s recognized that the social
network and social interactions are important for the life satisfaction of individuals; especially that the standard of, or the satisfaction with these social interactions could increase an individual’s well-being. Interacting with neighbours (e.g. exchanging favours and tiny talks) could increase the wellbeing
and happiness of people.
Social characteristics of the neighbourhood, like the proportion of non-western ethnic minorities and therefore the proportion of individuals with an occasional income, are found to extend the number of social interactions between neighbours. A possible explanation is that in more homogeneous
neighbourhoods, people have more shared common beliefs, values, concerns and interests, and are therefore more likely to interact with one another.
Besides neighbourhood factors, several effects of private characteristics on the quantity of local social interactions were found in like age, ethnicity, household composition, car ownership and employment.
Moreover, people with the higher income have a greater range of resources and thus probably have more access to social contacts outside of the neighbourhood and thus fewer neighbourhood-based contacts. Also, homeownership and length of residence positively influence the knowledge of
and interacting with neighbours.
2. Place attachment:-
Place attachment is linked with the satisfaction with social contacts within the neighbourhood. People are probably more satisfied with their social contacts within the neighbourhood if they have more residents in their social network. Therefore, they're going to probably feel more connected to their
living environment.
Place attachment is found to possess a positive effect on social satisfaction. This means that folks who are more attached to their living environment are more satisfied with their social life. Overall, the attachment to the living environment plays a crucial role in explaining social satisfaction, and
thus the well-being of people.
3. Club membership:-
Club membership is found to possess a positive direct effect on social satisfaction. This means that folks who are a member of 1 or more clubs are more satisfied with their social life.
4. Employment:-
Working is additionally found to possess a positive direct effect on social satisfaction. This suggests that folks who are employed are more satisfied with their social life than those that don't seem to be employed.
Having employment provides social interactions with colleagues and will increase the sensation of being socially integrated. This probably explains the very fact that the social satisfaction of
individuals who have employment is more than unemployed people. These findings imply the importance of participating in social activities and being socially included for the standard of the social network.
5. Other minor factors:-
Social cohesion, very high density, low income, car ownership, length of residence, frequency of walking, and frequency of cycling were found to possess an indirect effect on the number of social interactions with residents.
Education is one of the keys to the employment door. Everyone should enjoy the right to education irrespective of their background.
Education plays a crucial role in an exceeding person’s life and helps to become socially, emotionally and mentally strong. We must always try and give education to children who don't seem to be privileged.

LDL is an NGO, run by a group of socially active, determined & educated youths who have been working for children living in slums since 2012. This NGO shows the vision for the future guided by the motto Educate * Empower * Enlighten.
